Vision for Curriculum & Instruction at HVRSD

During the 2023-2024 school year, Curriculum & Instruction will be focusing on three key areas which include:

  • Social Emotional Well Being

  • Data Driven Instruction

  • Strategic Planning

Social Emotional Well Being: The district continues to partner with Rutgers University Behavioral Health. We will be collaborating with them throughout the year on trauma informed instruction. Additionally, we are in year 2 of the Character Strong program, which focuses on developing the whole child through the integration of character education with social emotional competencies.

Data Driven Instruction: HVRSD continues to see the need to make data informed instructional decisions. This work is integral in providing faculty with needed resources/support to make those decisions along with addressing the needs of all learners. Toward that end, the district will:: provide professional development opportunities on utilizing data in the classroom along with provide training on data platforms, such as LinkIt, i-Ready, Common Lit (to name a few). The district will continue to model and implement data chats with faculty and the administrative team.

Strategic Planning:  In order to ensure that all voices, perspectives, and concerns are being heard, the district will be working with School Boards on developing a 3 year strategic plan to begin implementation in the 2024-2025 school year.

HVRSD supports inclusivity, which means:

  • Being respectful & empathetic

  • Welcoming & needing all

  • Allowing for access & opportunity

  • Moving out of your comfort zone: personal awareness & growth

  • Providing individualized expectations

  • Accepting & celebrating differences

  • Promoting diverse perspectives
