In Hopewell, our building administrators are meeting with our student leaders at TMS and CHS to review their plans to ensure we can support the rights of our students while protecting their safety. Plans are being finalized; however, on March 14, students plan to assemble in the hallways and spaces around the TMS and CHS School campus for 17 minutes (one minute for each student lost) to peacefully honor the students lost in Parkland Florida. We are not aware of any planned events on the elementary level; however, accommodations will be made for any student who wishes to participate.
These events are focused on students and staff and we ask that parents and community members who wish to show their support assemble in locations other than school grounds. The Hopewell Township Police Department will be on site to provide an added level of safety. If students plan to leave school grounds, we ask for a parent/guardian to sign him/her out prior to the event.
We are proud of our students and their ability to organize and participate in a peaceful protest that honors those students who were lost in this most recent school shooting. As a district, we recognize the importance of this event and I would like to assure you that students who participate in this peaceful protest will not be disciplined and building leaders will ensure students will not be forced to participate.
