HVRSD Spring Environmental Update

With the belief that small, daily choices add up when practiced by many people over a period of time, students and staff members were asked to pledge to reduce their environmental impact during our second E-Learning day.  Anyone who didn’t make the pledge can still do so here. Students and staff can only vote once and must use their hvrsd.org account for the pledge. The school and/or class with the most participation will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, and will receive a special prize provided by Friends of Hopewell Valley Open Space (FoHVOS).

In our schools and classrooms, our elementary STEM teachers are teaching sustainability concepts to our youngest learners, and we are in the process of  developing and implementing comprehensive indoor air quality standards with staff reporting protocols and record keeping to ensure a healthy classroom environment.  Our work is expanding outside the building walls through the assistance of our community partners like the many who are helping us build outdoor learning centers and sustainable meadows around our schools.

In an effort to recognize the work of students who embody our sustainability mission, we have once again partnered with Friends of Hopewell Valley Open Space (FoHVOS) to recognize an EcoWarrior at each school.  You may nominate a student from your school who embodies a sustainable lifestyle here.  An EcoWarrior for each school will be recognized by the Board of Education and FoHVOS this spring.

I hope you and your family have a safe and enjoyable spring break.

Sincerely,

Thomas A. Smith Ed.D.

Superintendent of Schools
