HVRSD Student Sonja Michaluk was recently selected as the 2019 U.S. Stockholm Junior Water Prize winner.

Hopewell Valley Regional School District (HVRSD) student Sonja Michaluk was recently selected as the 2019 U.S. Stockholm Junior Water Prize winner. She will be the United States representative at the international conference in Stockholm, Sweden in August during World Water Week. She was chosen from representatives sent by each state and Puerto Rico and will receive a $10,000 prize and an all-expense paid trip to Stockholm, Sweden.

Lora Durr Named 2019 Lowell Milken Center Fellow

FORT SCOTT, KS – June 1, 2019 – The Lowell Milken Center (LMC) for Unsung Heroes in Fort Scott, Kansas, an international educational non-profit, has awarded its prestigious Fellowship to high school art teacher, Lora Marie Durr, of Hopewell Valley Central High School in Pennington, NJ. Lora will arrive in Fort Scott on June 23rd for a week of collaboration with LMC staff.

Important Message from Dr. Smith

Dear Hopewell Valley Families:
I am saddened to report that one of our students, a freshman at Central High School, passed away earlier today.  Our condolences go out to the student’s family and friends.

 As expected, many adolescents and members of our community are impacted (either directly or indirectly) by this loss.  School counselors, case managers, and members of the Mercer County Traumatic Loss Coalition will be available throughout the day at Central High School and Timberlane Middle School to assist students. (Please click the title above to read more)

HVRSD Spring Environmental Update

As the weather improves and we prepare for our spring break next week, I would like to update you on our sustainability efforts that remain a district goal in addition to our academic and equity efforts. Last year, we removed plastic straws and stirrers in our cafeterias and focused on increasing participation in our recycling programs.  This year, our work has focused on raising awareness of the overuse of plastics in our environment. Students have been encouraged to use reusable water bottles and fill them at one of the over 50 filtered bottle filling stations in our schools. This has resulted in an overall decrease in the sales of bottled water in our cafeterias and less plastic in our environment.
