What's a Good Pig Name Anyway?

From naming a foster pig to choosing the song for the principal to sing karaoke-style during lunch, students throughout Hopewell Valley will vote on issues of interest in their schools on Tuesday, April 21. The elections are part of this year’s Project Democracy, marking its 10th year in Hopewell Valley.

Students from all six schools will vote from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. in their parents’ polling locations. For adult voters, April 21 is the date of the annual school board and budget election. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Shown above is Sarah Vite, who created the winning design in last year’s question for students at Central High School. Students voted on their favorite design for a mural in the school cafeteria.

A freshman when she created her design, Sarah was influenced by the artistic elements of street graffiti in developing her winning entry.

Her vibrant 14-feet-by-8-feet mural “Inspire” was spray-painted in lime green, orange and teal and incorporates the words pride, wisdom, joy, soul, laughter, hope, life and passion.

“A lot of people were doing things related to the cafeteria,” she explained. “But I thought it would be a good message for people to look at and think about.”

Sarah’s mural, done on masonite, was installed last fall.
