Introduction to Furniture Design/Construction
5 credits
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
This course is designed to provide the student with a basic understanding of the various materials, hand tools, and power equipment used in the area of woodworking. Layouts, cutting, joints, sanding, assembly and finishing are among the areas studied. Safety in the operation of hand and power tools is emphasized.

Furniture Design/Construction
5 credits
Grades 10, 11, 12
This course is designed to provide the student with an in-depth profile of furniture construction. The student may select and construct a piece of furniture of his/her choice with the use of a professionally developed set of plans. Extensive use of hand tools, power equipment, and joinery will be employed in the various styles and period of furniture constructed. Safety in the operation of hand and power tools is strictly emphasized. Prerequisite: Introduction to Furniture Design/Construction. Juniors and seniors who have not taken Introduction to Furniture Design may take this class with departmental approval.

Advanced Furniture Design/Construction
5 credits
Grades 11, 12
This course is designed to develop further a student's interest in woodworking, giving him/her the opportunity to design or select and construct another piece of furniture, as an extension of the present Furniture Design course. This project should ideally consume the entire school year. This class is the perfect endeavor for the student who has completed Woods II while helping to enrich his interest and strengthen his skills in furniture building. Prerequisite: Furniture Design/Construction.

Fine Woodworking
5 credits
Grades 11, 12
This course will include exposure to fine furniture construction. In-depth study and areas of concentration will include bending, laminating, veneering, inlay, marquetry, carving, turning spirals, etc. This will be an assignment-oriented course. All projects will be prepared in order to gain experience and be exposed to all of the above-mentioned areas. Strict standards will be maintained at all times, requiring use of proper nomenclature and techniques. Prerequisite: Furniture Design/Construction.

Construction and Everyday Woodworking
10 credits
Grades 10, 11, 12
This course is designed to provide student experiences in wood, construction, and design in many areas of carpentry, masonry, cabinet making, specialized furniture, structure, set design, and many other varying projects related to the building trades, construction field and "do it yourself" homeowner. Activities will involve both group and individual projects. Prerequisite: Introduction to Furniture Design/Construction.

Home Survival
2.5 credits
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
This course is designed to help prepare you for taking care of one of your future most expensive purchases…a home. Basic carpentry techniques, electrical wiring, plumbing repairs, wall treatments and repairs are only some of the hands-on skills you will acquire. Learn the satisfaction of knowing how to maintain and renovate a future home of your own plus save yourself thousands of dollars. This course will be the highlight of your day!

Technical Theatre Projects
5 credits
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
This course is designed for students who are interested in the production aspects of the dramatic arts. Students will be given instruction in the design, building and handling of stage scenery. Students will receive a basic understanding of the various materials, hand tools and power equipment used in set construction. Students will learn how to operate the sound and lighting systems used in theatrical production. Students will be encouraged to be involved in the various aspects of technical theatre during extracurricular plays, concerts, and events.
